Letter To Gilbert Public Schools Administration: Records ManagementPosted: 2014-04-09 Dear School Board Members, and Dr. Rice,
I am happy to see that the board docs for the April 8 board meeting, include Item 10.04; policy development on "Records Management". I feel this reflects your desire to see further development of the importance of integrity and transparency within the administration that has been lacking for a few years.
With the lack of a comprehensive response from the past administration, for those seeking records, via FOIA, of questionable actions taken, and monies spent by the district, it was inevitable that the community would lose it's trust in how the district was performing it's stewardship of their money. The lack of compliance, by the district, to give the community these records was magnified when a board member demanded to know the names of the people wanting information. This was a signal that the district, and past board majority wanted to intimidate the public. Why? Did, and do they have something to hide?
The result of poor stewardship contributed to the rejection of 2 overrides. To this day many records have not been turned over to the requesting parties. Were they purged from the "system"? What is the timeline from when the board member demanded the names, to the missing files? Is there a connection to the files and this request for names?
I want to congratulate the courage of the "new" majority on the school board. I want to thank them for continuing to pursue excellence in all areas of the district and administrative positions. As the community begins to trust that the board, and understands that the administration "has their back", as well as the classroom's and the teacher's, we will see a community that rallies around the new found integrity and in turn will support the needs of the district.
Thank you for your vested time in pursuing excellence, Susan Hicks Gilbert, AZ
