Doug Ducey, OPEN YOUR RECORDS!Posted: 2014-08-10 Arizona Freedom Alliance on August 9, 2014 AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham has requested the GOP gubernatorial candidates ‘refrain’ from personal attacks in their campaigning. His point is well taken – civility is important as long as it doesn’t interfere with the “people’s right to know” everything they possibly can about each of the candidates. Valid points are being raised regarding the sealed records. Republicans have been extremely vocal regarding President Obama’s sealed records. Yet, we allow GOP candidates to do the same. We should demand transparency of all candidates. It is understandable that candidates don’t want their personal/business lives paraded on the front pages – but every candidate opens that can of worms when they opt to run for public office. As voters, we need to know what may lie in the shadows of those who want to lead us; whether a candidate is truthful or deceitful, their moral and work ethics, etc. Where, oh where are the good investigative reporters of yesteryear? As to the mudslinging regarding voting records of candidates; those who have served in public office have a trail. Their votes are public record and easily accessible if you just take the time to research. In 45 years as an Arizona journalist, I’ve watched some pretty rough and tumble battles … but this primary is rapidly becoming one of the ugliest. And to make matters worse, our candidates are providing ammo for the Dems for the November general election. Graham should be concerned. The Dems only gubernatorial candidate Fred DuVal must go to bed with a smile on his face. – Editor Frosty Taylor Source: Republican Briefs Editor's Note: This message is long overdue. By way of clarifying, the candidate who has sealed his business records is Governor candidate Doug Ducey. No candidate for public office should seal their records and we remember the outrage we felt, and still feel, regarding Obama sealing his records. It is inappropriate to apply a double standard. The attack ads waged this election season are, as stated above, more egregious and more untrue than ever before. Any candidate running for public office should be able to win on their own records, those records should never be sealed from the eyes of voters, Republicans should never be fueling the efforts of Democrats. Voters should never vote for a candidate who uses their own campaign to trash an opponent instead of telling voters what their vision is for the job they seek. If that is how a candidate conducts themselves in the campaign, that is how they will conduct themselves if elected. The bigger problem is these false accusations interfere with the voters' knowledge of the candidates and may cause them to vote for or withhold a vote for a particular candidate that they otherwise would not do. Fair campaigning results in free and fair elections. Many thanks to Frosty Taylor for bringing this forward.
