It's been five months now since the "Resolution in Support of Closed Republican Primaries in Arizona" passed by super majorities
at the annual statutory meetings of the Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) and the Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP).
(Please see attachments for a copy of the resolution).
The issues that support closing our primaries are as real and serious today as they were when the resolution overwhelmingly passed
in January 2015, and much more so since Proposition 103 was passed in 1998 that created Arizona's insane semi-open primary system.
A semi-open primary system the Federal courts have ruled unconstitutional and a violation of our First Amendment right to freedom of
association.
As a famous Republican once said "electing Republicans to office is meaningless unless they are REAL Republicans". Based on what's
happening in Washington and in state capitols around the country, we need to elect a lot more REAL Republicans and get rid of the RINOs.
LET'S LOOK BACK TO 2010As a matter of fact and for the record, Mr. Randy Pullen recognized this real and serious violation of our constitutional rights while he was
Chairman of the AZGOP. In 2010 he requested Mr. Lee Miller, then General Counsel of the AZGOP, to contact several Arizona attorneys in
writing for a request for proposal (RFP) for the purpose "to retain outside counsel to assist it in developing a case in support of the
proposition that only registered members of the Party may vote in primary elections". (Please see attachments for a sample of Mr. Miller's
letter).
It's my understanding several Arizona attorneys responded in writing to Mr. Miller and the AZGOP. I have attached a couple of the responses -
one from Mr. David Hardy and one from Mr. Daniel Seiden of Gallagher & Kennedy. Please note how optimistic Messrs. Hardy and Seiden are
that the AZGOP's "proposition is well supported and has a high probability of success". Also note the individual estimated total costs that
Messrs. Hardy and Seiden quote are $50,000 or less.
Why didn't the AZGOP go ahead with the lawsuit to close the primaries? The RINOs did every thing they could to sabotage the effort.
LET'S LOOK AT THE PRESENT 2015We fast forward to 2015 and Mr. Robert Graham, Chairman of the AZGOP, has attempted from the very beginning to sabotage and obstruct the will
of the overwhelming majority of the AZGOP Precinct and State Committeemen.
Starting when the "Resolution in Support of Closed Republican Primaries in Arizona" was initially submitted to the AZGOP Resolutions Committee
chaired by Mr. Ray Sweeney, the floor fight to introduce the original resolution at the AZGOP Statutory Meeting on January 24 2015, the April 18 2015
AZGOP ExComm Meeting that Graham unilaterally decided to close and threatened over thirty (30) AZGOP Precinct and State Committeemen with
arrest, Mr. Chad Heywood's, Executive Director of the AZGOP, recent statement at a LD26 Republican Committee Meeting that the AZGOP "paid pretty
decent money" for the legal opinions they bought. Mr. Heywood also refers to the 2015 legal opinion they paid Mr. David Hardy for. Please note,
Mr. Hardy's 2010 opinion is much more optimistic and quite different than the one Graham and the AZGOP recently paid for. I wonder why?
(Please see attachments).
Now Graham and his AZGOP minions are attending meetings all over Arizona saying they support closing the primaries out of one side of their mouth
while making more lame excuses why they can't out of the other. One of the meeting attendees described the meeting he attended as "The Robert
Graham Excuses Express!" Another attendee informed me that Graham is making false statements, bad mouthing and disparaging me and others.
I witnessed and experienced it first hand when Graham spoke at LD18 - my home LD. I agree with the opinions of so many of you - Robert Graham's
actions are that of an out-of-control bully just like another RINO - John McCain. Just remember, Graham can be recalled from office and McCain
defeated in 2016.
I want to thank all of the grassroots conservatives around the State that are not giving up and continuing to fight to save our Great Republic and State
of Arizona. I want to especially thank LD14 and LD26 for passing their own strongly worded resolutions to close the primaries. I understand there
are other LDs planning to do the same and hope all thirty (30) eventually join the fight.
Warmest regards,
A. J. LaFaro
National Director, Arizona Republican Assembly (AZRA)
Immediate Past Chairman, Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC)
