Last week, Congress put off voting on a horribly bad immigration reform bill, thanks in large part to patriots all over the country who flooded Capitol Hill with phone calls. While the bill that was passed won’t necessarily be getting grade-A marks anytime soon, it at least calls for tighter border enforcement.
Last week, our voices made all the difference, but we can’t stop now.
This week, it’s time to do the same with the executive branch. Call the White House at 1-855-851-2702 and tell the Obama Administration not to pass executive amnesty!
On March 28, 2011 [1], President Obama said himself that executive action on amnesty was beyond the limits of his presidential authority.
“There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system,” said Obama at the time,” that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as President.”
For once, we agree with him. The president does not have the authority to legislate policy from the Oval Office. Doing so would be an affront to the Constitution and rule of law. Lest President Obama forget, it’s the president’s job to protect and uphold the Constitution – not demolish it to advance policy goals.
While Congress is on recess, we need to make sure President Obama knows where we stand on executive amnesty for millions of immigrants who are in this country illegally. It’s time to call the White House, and demand the president refrain for unilaterally granting amnesty!
